Grapefruit (Citrus Paradisi)
The Grapefruit we use for essential oil is cultivated in California and Florida. These two states grow a majority of the U.S. grapefruit that is processed into essential oil. The essential oil of Grapefruit is extracted from the rind of the fruit, unlike other oils it is cold pressed instead of being steam distilled. This oil is great for oily skin and acne and has a tonic effect on the skin and scalp. Grapefruit is figuratively described as a sunny oil, meaning that it possess uplifting and refreshing qualities.
Sweet Orange (Citrus Sinensis)
The Orange Tree was originally native to China and India, and was not used medicinally until the late 17th Century because it was both rare and expensive. Like other citrus, the Orange adapted well to the Mediterranean and to places like Florida and Southern California. This cheery, warm and happy oil is great for dry and dehydrated mature skin.
Fennel (Foeniculum Vulgare)
Fennel grows wild in many parts of Europe, from the Mediterranean, where it originated, to parts of Russia. Fennel seems to thrive near the sea. Fennel smells very similar to Anise seed as they are in the same family-Umbelliferae. Fennel has an herby, spicy smell that takes on the characteristics of licorice. Fennel has a soothing, cleansing and toning effect on the skin, it is an active anti-oxidant and helps to reduce water retention in the skin.
